Pop Up Programs in the Parks

Stop by one of these free Montgomery Parks' Pop Up programs scheduled this fall for various urban parks:

• September 1, 8, 15 at 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Seated Massage, Caroline Freeland Urban Park, 7200 Arlington Road, Bethesda
• September 10 and October 1 at 10 a.m. - Noon: Tai Chi, Fairview Urban Park, 8900 Fairview Road, Silver Spring
• September 17 and 25 at 11 a.m.- Noon: Bollywood Dancing, Elm Street Urban Park, 4600 Elm Street, Bethesda

No registration is required, just show up!

Woodlawn Barn Visitor Center

History buffs, check out this segment on County Cable Montgomery's The Bottom Line to learn about the rehabilitation of the Woodlawn stone bank barn and adjacent carriage house. The visitor center, which is scheduled to open in the spring, will feature interactive exhibits on the Underground Railroad, the Quaker Experience in Montgomery County, and the barn as a feature of the County’s agricultural landscape. You can get to the bucolic setting in Sandy Spring easily from our major population centers, and you'll be impressed with the the learning experience. We sure were when we took a sneak peek a couple of weeks ago.

Olney Manor Dog Park Opens Saturday

Join Lady (my schnoodle) and me for the grand opening of the Olney Manor Dog Park tomorrow, 9:00-noon. This is the fifth dog park in the county’s system, joining Black Hill Regional Park, Cabin John Regional Park, Ridge Road Recreational Park and Wheaton Regional Park. Parks staff tell me that dog parks continue to be one of the most popular amenities in the parks system. And I know Lady is looking forward to getting a treat from Bark!, one of the local businesses participating in the event.
