Montgomery County's unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in December 2013, according to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. This is the lowest it has been in five years, when in 2008 it was also 4.1 percent. That's below the Maryland rate of 5.7 percent and is the second lowest in the state after Howard County.
